Award-Winning SSDs at Syntech
In June this year we posted about our latest Patriot SSD, the red-hot Wildfire. It’s one of our fastest SSDs, featuring a Sandforce SF-2281 controller and a virtually indestructable metal casing.
This product has since been featured and awarded with their mark of approval by both Hardware Secrets and Tech Kings. Here’s what they had to say:
In the past few months, the number of SATA-600 solid state drives on the market has increased substantially. So there is now more choice than ever if you’re looking to upgrade your computer with a performance SSD. We believe that 120 GB SSDs offer the best compromise between price and capacity as you can combine them with a traditional mechanical hard drive to provide storage capacity for media files and documents.
We can see from our tests that the Patriot Wildfire has a clear performance lead over both of the Corsair drives we used for comparison, so it is ideal for those looking for the ultimate performance from their drive.
We’re glad to see that Patriot is including a 3.5” adapter with the Wildfire as it ensures compatibility with virtually any PC case. This is something we would like to see all SSD manufacturers include with their drives in the future.

Patriot’s Wildfire SSDs are using the same Sandforce SF-2281 controllers that other high end SSDs will be using, so you can be assured that you’ll receive a performance drive. In comparison to it’s smaller brother, which is still packing Sandforce SF-2281-and an “aggressive” price, there still remains a performance gap in both incompressible performance and the compressible write performance.
When it’s all said and done, the Wildfire 120GB drive will run with the best of them, and the 120GB price point provides the best cost-performance-capacity benefits. This puts the 120GB version high up on our wishlist for a high performance drive. And although we have not had the privilege of testing many other Sandforce SF-2281 drives, other tests have shown that the Wildfire is in the upper ranks, and Patriot will no doubt continue chasing the bleeding edge of storage technology.
